Vilnius – Overview

Vibrant Vilnius, Lithuania’s largest and capital city is situated close to the border of Belarus. Having regained independence, the city has over recent decades blossomed into one of Eastern Europe’s most enchanting destinations.

For culture lovers the city abounds with beautiful baroque buildings and an almost endless supply of museums, but for a peek at something truly unique, head for the bohemian streets of the Uzupis district. Coined as Vilnius’s Montmarte, this self proclaimed republic has become something of an artistic enclave, crammed with workshops and contemporary gallery spaces. Die hard romantics will adore a slow stroll over the Uzupis Bridge, which is adorned with hundreds of engraved padlocks, hung by newly weds as a symbol of their love. Alternatively nothing beats a tour of the city’s picturesque Old Town that with its labyrinth of laneways and centuries old brick buildings is guaranteed to charm even the savviest of travellers.

After a hard day spent sight seeing, weary feet can be rested at one of Vilnius’s many eateries. As a city made for leisurely living; meals here should be savoured and shared with friends. Something to satisfy all tastes, visitors can take their pick of cosmopolitan cuisine, or better still tuck into some truly delicious local dishes.

As night falls, it's time to hit the city centre and soak up some of authentic Lithuanian night life. Here buzzing bars are a plenty, from the heady heights of sophisticated sky bars to cosy corners of underground drinking dens.
