Vilnius – Getting Around

Vilnius is served by Vilnius International Airport which is located around 6 km south of the main city centre. Taxis can be hailed from the ground floor of the main terminal and journeys into the city take around 10 minutes, but be sure to use only official vehicles. Alternatively passengers can jump on one of the regular bus or train services that depart every few minutes throughout the day.

Bus & Trolleybus

Vilnius enjoys an extensive bus and trolleybus network that run on routes around the city and surrounding suburbs. Easy to navigate and reasonably priced, buses and trolleybuses can often be a good way of getting to popular spots. Visitors can purchase single tickets or electronic longer term travel passes. Long distance buses to destinations all over the Baltics arrive and depart from the terminal located adjacent to the main train station.

Rental Car

A number of well known car hire companies have booths inside of the airport terminal and downtown. Booking in advance is recommended to secure the best deal and ensure availability; cheaper rates can usually be negotiated for longer term rental.

There are many official taxis that operate throughout Vilnius, which can be pre-booked by telephone or via a hotel. Most taxis are metered and fares are standard, although do expect to pay more for late night journeys.

Vilnius Central Train Station (Geležinkelio stotis) operates numerous services to the surrounding region and beyond. Destinations include Kaunas, Riga and Ignalina. Tickets can be bought from kiosks on the station concourse for same day or advance travel.
