Varna – Getting Around

Aiport Transfers

Varna is served by the Varna International Airport (VAR), which is located 8km west of the city centre. Shuttle buses run frequent services from outside of terminal 1 to downtown Varna. A taxi rank is situated outside of the terminal which has official metered taxis; a journey to central Varna should cost between 105 and 20 lv, and take approximately 20 minutes depending on traffic.

Bus

There are two separate bus stations in Varna, one for national destinations and the other solely for international services. Eurolines operate most of the international services, with connections to Greece, Turkey, Romania and Serbia. International tickets are available online, while local tickets can be purchased from manned tickets offices at the bus station.

On foot

Most of the cities top attractions are located within walking distance of one another and exploring the city by foot can be a great way to see the sights, particularly in the summer months. Major hotels and tourist shops sell street maps, alternatively free maps are given out at the Tourist Information Centre.

Taxi

Taxis are a comfortable and convenient way to travel around the city and visitors will find fares much cheaper than in the United Kingdom. The main taxi ranks are located outside of the central train station and in front of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin. Some taxis are not metered, so be sure to negotiate a fare in advance.

Train

The train station is located in the heart of the city, and within walking distance of the main cruise terminal. The are a number of frequent services to other major Bulgarian cities such as Sofia, Plovdov and Rousse as well as several long distance and international trains services to Moscow, Krakow and Saratov. Tickets can be purchased from automated machines and manned offices which are located inside of the train station.
