Tampere – Regular Events

New Years Day

After a heavy night of New Years celebrations take a stroll around the beautiful streets of Tampere. Although many restaurants and shops are closed for the public holiday, several cafes still remain open and provide a great spot for a coffee or two.

Tampere Pride Festival

This relatively new annual festival celebrates gay culture in Finland. Expect flamboyant outfits, artistic workshops and world music performances taking place over a 3 day period in venues all across the city.

Tampere Film Festival

Now the largest Film Festival in Northern Europe, the annual Tampere Film Festival showcases films from up-and-coming and established talent, and attracts over 35,000 people. Tickets can be purchased in advance, but book early to secure a place.

Tampere Biennelle

A great place to listen to authentic Finnish music is at the Tampere Bienielle festival. The events take place in mid-April and tickets can be purchased from the website in advance.

Tampere Regatta

This annual international rowing festival features two days of junior and adult rowing competitions on the beautiful Lake Kaukajärvi.

Sauna Metal Festival

Heavy metal lovers will enjoy this 3 day open-air music festival that sees a whole host of talented metal and rock musicians take to the stage. The festival also offers a wide selection of international food and clothing stalls.

Tammerfest

This 4 day music extravaganza features live music from local and international bands. Events take place all over the city, in parks, clubs and on boats.

Tampere Theatre Festival

The annual Tampere Theatre Festival features some of countries most talented theatrical, dance and musical performers, along with a number of workshops and classes for all the family. The events take place in the beginning of August over a six day period.

Chinese Cultural Festival

Throughout the whole month of September numerous celebrations and workshops are held that aim to educate people about traditional Chinese culture. Dragon dancing, colourful puppetry and music entertainment are just some of the featured events that take place in the city.

Tampere Illuminations

The month of October brings the annual switching on of the Tampere lights. The display includes over 33,000 bulbs which are arranged into beautiful patterns, along with 1km of lighting cable to brighten up the winter months until the beginning of January when they are finally switched off.

Tampere Jazz Happening

The annual Jazz Happening festival includes talented local and international jazz musicians, who come to perform in venues all over the city.

Christmas Market

The Christmas market is a great place to get into the festive spirit and pick up some authentic handicrafts and gifts. The market is located in the Tallipihas Christmas Village, in the Kuninkaankatu area of Tampere.
