Burgas – Getting Around

Airport Transfers

Burgas International Airport is located about 10 km to the North East of the city centre. Many of the passengers arriving into the airport will be able to take free shuttle buses connecting them to their hotel and it is advisable to check before travelling if this option is available to you as it is the most convenient way to travel into the city centre.

If you are making your own way from the airport a public bus service (route 15) runs approximately every 30 minutes from the airport into the city centre and costs 0.90 LV for a single journey plus extra tickets for your luggage. There are no trains servicing the airport but the bus will take you to the main train station. Car hire can be arranged in the airport and taxis can be found outside the front of the arrivals hall. A taxi ride into Burgas should take no more than 15 minutes in good traffic.

There are 8 major bus routes and 1 trolleybus line servicing Burgas all of which run from 5am to 11pm, up to every 25 minutes. Unless you can read Cyrillic or speak Bulgarian the buses aren’t ideal since all the timetable information about the routes is in Bulgarian. If you do want to take the bus though a good tip is to buy a city map and mark the route out.

There are many taxis in Burgas and finding one is never usually a problem it’s agreeing on a fair price that is the difficult part! Try and look out for licensed cabs which are yellow in colour and display an oval sticker on the windscreen. Usual practice is to agree to a flat fare before departing and it is common to have to pay 50% of the drivers return journey if travelling outside the city. A tip of between 15-20% is recommended.

The bus and trolley bus network is integrated so one tickets serves both and at only 0.8LV for a one way trip, very cheap. Daily and monthly passes are also available at a cost of 4LV and 36LV respectively. Each large piece of luggage requires a ticket and you will be fined if you do not have one to present to the conductor.
